# WEAR A MASK, SOCIAL DISTANCE, AND PLEASE NO YODELING

Ancient Egyptian's suffered seven years of drought, famine, and pestilence. But even they never dreamed it could get this bad...The Washington Post reported today:  

*The Swiss pastime of yodeling appears to have led to a major coronavirus cluster in the country, potentially providing more evidence to [back up concerns](https://www.washingtonpost.com/goingoutguide/karaoke-is-a-health-risk-during-a-pandemic-these-superfans-are-desperate-for-it-to-return/2020/08/14/4ae62a12-dd96-11ea-809e-b8be57ba616e%5Fstory.html?itid=lk%5Finline%5Fmanual%5F75) that singing heightens the risk of virus transmission.*

*Roughly 600 people attended [two indoor yodeling shows](https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/corona-hotspot-schwyz-dramatischer-aufruf-des-spitals-bitte-tragen-sie-masken) in late September in the rural canton of Schwyz, according [to Agence France-Presse](https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20201015-finger-pointed-at-swiss-yodelling-superspreader-concert). Social distancing was required, although masks were not.*

*Several of the yodelers later tested positive for the coronavirus, organizer Beat Hegner [told Swiss broadcaster RTS](https://www.rts.ch/info/regions/autres-cantons/11680346-lhopital-de-schwyz-sature-apres-un-concert-de-yodel-superpropagateur.html).*

*While it's unclear exactly how many cases are linked to the events, infections have surged in Schwyz in recent weeks. Until mid-September, only about 500 people in the canton had tested positive for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, [AFP reported](https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20201015-finger-pointed-at-swiss-yodelling-superspreader-concert). That number has more than doubled over the past four weeks.*

 It's gotten so bad residents of the canton can't remember where the y is supposed to go in Schwyz. Or Schywz. Or Schwzy.
